I was asked to design a book cover for Maya Angelou’s memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The design process began with mind mapping to explore key themes, followed by the creation of two distinct mood boards—one representing the story’s setting and the other reflecting Maya Angelou’s personality and emotional journey. I then explored typography and color palettes that aligned with the tone of the memoir. After sketching a series of thumbnails to experiment with layout and composition, I selected one concept to develop in Adobe Illustrator. In the end, a process deck was created to document and present the full development of the design.
